Washing Your Vintage Rug
You really don’t know how dirty your oriental rug is until you have it cleaned. If you buy an antique or vintage oriental and Persian rug online, from a private seller or an estate auction, then you should have it cleaned before you lay it out in your home. You May not notice but rugs that have been on the floor for years accumulate dead skin, dog and pet dander and all kinds of nasty spills that were wiped up but no thoroughly cleaned. Those stains are still there. You just don’t know whats on that carpet. A thorough handwashing will remove those nasty stains and bodily fluids of the last owner and their family. Oriental and area rugs should be cleaned every 2-3 years especially vintage and antique rugs that were recently purchased
Repairing Your Vintage Rugs
Usually antique and vintage rugs need some sort of repair. The proper repair will maintain the integration of your rug and carpet. One of the worst things that a rug repairer can do is put machine fringes on an antique or vintage Persian rug. It is not only ugly; the glue will cause the end of the rug to deteriorate rapidly over years. Proper fringing, binding and re-weaving will maintain the aesthetic and investment value of your rug.
