Oriental and Persian rugs could easily last two or three generation, becoming family heirlooms. Rug are very durable but they do require regular maintenance. Here are some simple tips that will help you care for your carpets.
Vacuuming-Best done in the direction of the pile on a regular basis. The fringe is more fragile and should not be vacuumed. Avoid using a power nozzle. Every year, vacuum the reverse side to help remove the build up of dirt around the knots.
Rotation-Regular rotation and reversing direction (every year) will promote even wear and reduce the risk of fading from direct sunlight.
Moths- Lay eggs in dark and quiet places. Regular vacuuming under sofas and heavy furniture reduces the risk of moth damage.
Under-pad- A proper underpad will hold your rug firm to the floor, protecting the back our your rug. This helps reduce the risk of knot damage. Under pad will also make the rug more comfortable and safe to walk on.
Stain Removal - Clean spills as soon as possible. If left to dry, stain may be difficult to remove. The best method of removing a spill is buy using a damp cloth with a solution of non detergent soap with a touch of vinegar. wipe the soiled are in the direction of the pile.
